I went the opposite way... I scaled down the humans. Totally easier. Here's my rationale:
- This project is for a self contained heresy era Astares and human collection - no other ranges will pollute the overall cohesion of the project.
- Bigging up all the Astartes is a lot of wasted effort
- If you make your Astartes larger, then the tanks and warmachines look too small... really you should big up all the other Astartes pieces too.
- Nostalgia - all my old Rogue Trader era plastic guardsmen were this size...
Easy decision for me, so I created a little multi part guardsmen range that would scale with the Astartes.
5 Greatcoat legs
5 Greatcoat torsos with guns (single piece)
3 blank torso's for conversions
35 heads (Yep 35, 7 different styles, 5 copies of each)
Everything went into a single 12" silicone mold plate and was spun in metal.
first assembly, with some sculpting
and some painting
So this heresy era Imperial Army regiment, as yet unnamed, will be allied to the Word Bearers and turn upon the Ultramarines. There will of course be a Calth defence force in full Ultramarine liveries, but that's for another day.
#### a note on army composition: I'm not following any army list or restrictions, this is freestyle - Astartes will be in units of 5, Imperial Army in units of 7 or 8 ###
Next up will be some leaders and special weapons to go with the riflemen, just to add a little flavour. I can't wait to make a standard bearer too!
Thematically they aren't going to be full on chaos yet, only the early stages of the taint - just another regiment following their Astartes orders.
